The Fucker List |
The Fucker List is a list of names of people who have been deemed "fuckers." A fucker can be anybody with whom a person has a problem, and any person can anonymously submit any name to be included on the list. Entries need not be specific people or people whom the submitter personally knows; many entries are groups of people (such as "Cell phone users who can't drive") and celebrities. What the Fucker List is not The Fucker List is not a hit list. Nowhere on this site does it claim to be. If you interpret it as such, you are mistaken; and as such, are an idiot as well. The administrators of this website do not personally know most of the people on the list. If you are on the list, it is because somebody thinks you are a fucker. They submitted your name. We did not personally add anyone to the list. We also do not keep track of who submits names. This is an anonymous service. Legal Foundation Time and time again, people email us and claim that this list is illegal. It is not. The Fucker List is run by citizens of the United States of America and is hosted on a server from within the US. All laws of the US are followed by the administrators of this site. According to US law, the term "fucker" is opiniative in nature; it cannot be proven. Therefore, it is not considered libel, and is protected free speech. This means if you or anyone you know is on the list, you do not have the legal right to file a lawsuit against The Seinman Network or anyone affiliated with it. The US Supreme Court backs up this stance:
History In early 2002, my brother had the idea of making a list of people who are fuckers. If we think someone is a fucker, they go on the list. If a visitor to the site thinks someone is a fucker, they can submit their name to be on the list as well. Well it wasn't really his idea, he got it from somewhere else. Either way, it was quite a brilliant concept, so we soon added it to the site. It was short and not very popular at first. Over a few months, however, it grew. Submissions came in, and people started reading it. At this point, it wasn't linked to, so word of mouth alone got the word out about it. In September of 2002, I put a link to the fuckers list on the front page of the site. People loved it, and we got even more submissions. It became quite popular, which eventually lead to controversy. In January of 2003, almost one year after the list made its first appearnce, a user submitted a list of people who attended Lincoln-Way East High School in Frankfort, Illinois. Due to the lack of names on the list at the time, about a third of the names on the list were students at Lincoln Way. Despite the fact that hundreds of names on the list were not students at this school, it was assumed that the list was a personal attack against the school, and was interpreted as a hit list. Soon, thousands of students were rushing to the site to see who was on it. During the three day period following the discovery of the list, traffic to the site increased by 10,000 percent. The local authorities were contacted and an investigation was initiated, in addition to the school's staff questioning students in regards to the list and their possible involvement. No charges were pressed against the site's administrators, nor was anyone punished at Lincoln-Way. After we heard about everything that was going on with the list at Lincoln-Way and received numerous complaint emails, we decided to take the page down. We didn't do it because it was illegal, we didn't do it because we were forced to; we did it because it was easier than dealing with the morons who thought that it was something it was not. A few months later, in May of 2003, we put the Fucker List back online. Since then, it has grown tremendously in popularity, and the number of names on the list has increased by a factor of five. With popularity comes hassle, as many more people have emailed complaints and legal threats to us over the years. Despite this, I intend to continue updating and maintaining the list for as long as there is interest. |
